THE PROPOSAL
Sandra Bullock has not been seen much since the 2006 romance The Lake House with Keanu Reeves. Now she's back with another romance, The Proposal, this time with Ryan Reynolds.
DESPERATE MARRIAGE. Margarate Tate (Bullock) is a book editor at a New York publishing company. She is amitious, tyrannical and hated by everyone who works for her, especially her assistant, Andrew (Reynolds). She has one problem, however: she is Canadian, and the US Immigrations Service is going to deport her. Unless, of course, she can marry an American citizen. Like Andrew, for instance. Andrew understands that Margaret is a monster, but accepts her proposition on one condition-that she promotes him to editor.
Initially, it is impossible to care about either Margaret or Andrew because their motives are entirely cynical and mercantile. Once we begin to care, it is only because Bullock transforms Margaret into somebody sensitive and kind. In other words, the film cheats.
Fortunately, Bullock is good enough to carry the film on charm alone, and The Proposal offers a pleasant (if instantly forgettable) two hours.
It's a fantastic film!;)
I recommend it.
